Abuse

This is a very difficult issue. The subject matter is difficult. And for some of our readers, it may be too much. It may make some people angry or disgusted that we are displaying pieces with such vivid and bold references to sexual and physical abuse.

But I would argue that it is one of our most important issues. It is important because so many of us have experienced sexual and physical abuse. And we carry it with us. And our lives are influenced by it.

Some people have been able to build a good and loving life in spite of the abuse they experienced. Others, it has broken and debilitated. Many continue to struggle with the confusion, the anger, and the feelings of shame and humiliation and disappointment that it causes them.

This issue is meant to provide an outlet for those who need ways of expressing the overwhelming thoughts and emotions that have come from abuse. And it is also meant to allow for reflection. It provides us with personal experiences, some credited, some anonymous, upon which we can examine ourselves.

Be the stories and reflections tough, but be they real.

Sincerely,

Nicole Moore
