Phone Interview with Corey Glover of LIVING COLOUR
by Brooke Palmer

To those of you who thought otherwise, Living Colour....the high-energy, socially-aware, heavy grooving, brain-blasting guitar soloing band that cracked the scene with the hit song "Cult of Personality" two decades ago....have NOT reunited. They have been together, working, since 1999. Maybe between the various band members' solo projects, including lead singer Corey Glover's work in various movies and stage productions (including the recent tour of Jesus Christ Superstar), and a dirth of albums over the past ten years, you had not realized that they are still rocking out.

Well, know it! On September 15th, Living Colour is releasing their latest album, The Chair in the Doorway.  And check their MySpace page to discover if they're playing in a city near you (this is a grand opportunity, and it's been six years since they've toured). I'm sad to say they have no midwestern cities on the tour, but they are playing in Austin and Dallas early this month, AND are making an appearance at Waterloo Records in Austin. Get on their site and make your plans, quickly!

To find out about what's going on with this band that I love, I had a phone interview with Corey Glover. I interviewed him a couple years ago regarding his role as Judas in Jesus Chris Superstar (visit our Archives-linked from the homepage-and open the "Love and Black History Month Issue" for that article), and that day he was very quiet. So I was a bit nervous about how this interview would go, but luckily for me, he was in a much more talkative mood. It was one of my most enjoyable interviews to date and I have put the audio files of the interview on our site so you can listen to the interview yourself!

Just click on each of the five interview sound files to hear the 5-7 minute-long segments.

Then purchase the new album and travel to the nearest city to see them live!

This interview was conducted over the telelphone and thus the sound quality of Glover's responses isn't great. For best listening results, I recommend using earphones.
