Poetry for Young People

These two poetry books are from a wonderful series by Sterling Publishing Company called Poetry for Young People. Each book contains the poetry of one honored writer and is beautifully illustrated (the above-featured Langston Hughes book is illustrated by Benny Andrews, and the above-featured Maya Angelo book is illustrated by Jerome Lagarrigue). Each book contains an introduction on the life and work of that particular poet and also includes footnote definitions at the end of the poems for special words, places, slang or colloquialisms, or important events and time periods. Though the series is developed for young readers, the books can easily be enjoyed by people of all ages. Other featured poets in the series include Walt Whitman, Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickinson, Rudyard Kipling, and William Shakespeare, as well as many more.
