Seasons of Love
Temporadas De Amor
I. Spring
Magnificent.
Violet Crowned. Red Ruby Throated.
Strong, stubborn, backwards, forward flyer.
Delicate, humble, honest soul, consentida de dios.
Ancient ones have known you Aztec Huitzilin.
Feathered warrior, chupa rosa healer.
Pica flor o pica corazon.
Messenger of love.
Incan princess Aquenti.
Adorned in precious stone ruby,
amethyst, sapphire, emerald, topaz splendors
all radiate from the feathered gems of Nature’s jeweler.
In spring you fly from Coral Honeysuckle vines.
To trumpets of a Morning Glory blossom.
Fluttering your tominejo wings
like a Spanish Fly.
Mayan eyes
have disguised you as El Sol.
Chasing La Luna across a milky way sky.
While the mimosa and manzanita trees dress for you.
I impatiens-ly await you, anxious for you to find me.
Sentir tu cabellos del sol adentro de mi.
I welcome your Colibri Spirit
and spread my petals wide.
II. Summer
Finally You are hear
You have penetrated the walls of amor
To my jardin of clandestine hummingbird mint
my sweet nectar, my flor essence is yours to savor
Tips of elongated feathers around your neck, sparkles.
Illuminating the bands across your cheeks.
Radiance beams from your brow
to the luster in your veiled tail.
Your feathered tail.
Expanded, motionless, translucence.
Cinnamon fusing into crimson, crimson to purple,
purple to violet, and violet to an indigo azul stained glass.
Quedate conmigo, stay with me this summer.
Juntos your beak and my pollen will create.
We’ll bathe in a blossom of flowers
in the fragrance of beauty itself.
There is no other,
that looks at me, smells me,
feels me, tastes me, moves me – as deeply
as you do, my tzun-tzuncito lover, my companion, my friend.
Your corazon piercing, almond chocolate eyes searching,
bearer of joy, happiness and love.
Stop your wings for a moment
and hold me.
III. Fall
Something is wrong,
petals beginning to close.
Luscious greens turn yellows, reds to brown.
The mimosa y manzanita trees begin to undress.
Oh no our time has run out, Otono is here.
You spread your wings to catch a ride
on the cool winds of change
and you are gone.
Petals stretched reaching.
Fluttering eyes screaming your name.
Magnificent! Violet crowned! Red ruby throated!
Huitzilin! Alquenti! Tominejo! Colibri! Tzun-tzuncito!
Corazon broken, feelings of an unknown shame.
Forsaken love, selfish love, deserted love.
Painful daggered tears rip my skin.
Exposing my bloodless veins.
Damn! How could you?
Fabricate “exit stage left” so easy.
Was my nectar not sweet or salty enough for you.
Not worthy of a pinche ay tewacho cucaracho goodbye!
Selfishly believed I could catch you, keep you caged.
Your free spirit flowing colors of beauty
would have turned to shades
of death grays to black.
IV. Winter
Frost bitten, dried up petals,
all that’s left of this spring, summer flor.
Nothing but time on my hands and you on my mind.
Pensive thoughts of introspection, contemplation, speculation
Two hearts connected by an invisible harmonic cord of beauty.
Wings penetrating clouds in our fathers blue sky.
Roots piercing deep into our mothers soil.
All reflections of me and Mi otro yo.
Living breathing beings,
of a hot headed, passion burning amor.
You are to me, I am to you, time made for each other.
Not my time, your time but on the celestial tick tocks of seasons.
I know you tried, if you could, you would - have stayed with me.
Mirrored images of the same soul, beautiful on the outside,
inside running from demons of painful memories
of past falls - and winters.
Nature’s beautiful way
of maintaining balance between la cara y el corazon.
Somewhere in time I forgot, Hummingbirds always leave
in fall and Primavera flowers never make it past winter.
Now in my seedling state, a new batch of sweet nectar brews.
New walls of amor under construction. New petals taking shape,
selecting a new color to wear just in case you are there,
on my resurrection day.
