Nicole's Favorites:

Unique Perspective: Kelly Creed's
On the Road: Memoirs of a Female Truck Driver

Issue: #2 Travel

"I enjoy this piece because it provides such a unique and rarely highlighted perspective. Not only a perspective of a truck driver on the road who must make the miles and be quite inventive and unabashedly practical when it comes to taking care of natural bodily functions, but also because it is from the perspective of a woman on the road in a profession that is highly male dominated. Not to say that there are not women truck drivers, because there are many strong spirited road warrioresses out there, but it is not often that we hear about their perspectives."

Exciting Issue to Create: Erotica

Issue: #3 Erotica

There are many great issues on the site, but one of my favorite editions to work on was the Erotica issue because it was the first issue that we received such great responses in contributions and submissions; showing us that sensuality and sexuality are subjects that not only captivate us all but can be expressed in such sexy and beautiful ways. In this issue, we had some very explicit stories, some seductive and alluring pieces, some wonderful photos (of which a select few still remain onsite), beautiful charcoal picasso-like faces, and some very interesting articles about sex, the sex industry, and being bold and right, hot, and proud of it!

Very Powerful Piece:
Bone by C. Herger Thomann

Issue: #4 Muerte

This piece is powerful. The writing is strong and the set-up of details unfold naturally and with such a feel of familiarity that the reader is provided with a natural sense of intrigue mixed with empathy for the story of a man alone, offering what help he can to a man whose injuries might have been fatal. It provides a glimpse into one of those defining moments in human character: the moment when one can offer help or turn the other way.

Most Intimate Piece:
Breathing with Chuck by Jan Picciuti

Issue: #7 Love & Black History Month

"Jan Picciuti shared with our readers a very intimate reflection of her beloved husband and the unique experiences she had in her marriage. Her reflections are of a most dear nature. We would like to thank her for sharing the experiences of her love and devotion in this beautiful piece."

Farewell in Anniversary Issue: #13; The Introduction

Issue: #9 Travel

This series is one of our most important ongoing endeavors. After being contacted by a soldier who was soon to be engaged in the service of helping to train the Iraqi army and who would be performing many outpost duties, we agreed to publish the soldier's reflections as he prepared to deploy and as he serves in Iraq. The soldier has agreed to provide as much detail as he can, without placing his mission in jeopardy or overstepping military restrictions. Our anniversary issue includes the soldier's farewell address to his family and friends, and we will continue to publish the Embedded series, as information becomes available.
