Strengths and Weaknesses, 

Hopes and Stressors


 

Last year Brooke, Heather, and I sat one evening in a bookstore café and created and participated in this exercise after a period during which we seemed to be losing sight of our website goals, as a whole. We determined that we needed to assess the strengths we saw in one another, the strengths we saw within ourselves, our personal hopes for the site, the weaknesses or difficulties we saw in one another, and the private stressors we each had that might also be causing frustrations in our interpersonal relationships. By identifying these aspects in ourselves and in one another, we were able to assess how best to integrate our strengths and how best to overcome our weaknesses to create a truly cohesive project. Following are those insights and introspections:


 

Strengths We See in One Another:

Heather to Brooke

1. Great writer

2. Not afraid to do anything

3. The most non-judgmental person I know

Heather to Nicole

1. Creativity

2. Great poet and artist

3. Excellent networker

Nicole to Brooke

1. Aggressive; thinks of an idea and gets it done.

2. Good at Promoting, talking with people, forming connections.

3. Great writer, interviewer, and motivator.

Nicole to Heather

1. Even-keeled

2. Great technological skills, great photography, and knowledge of software.

3. Business-minded, seeking out $, ads, grants.

Brooke to Nicole

1. Has good ideas and writing skills

2. Enthusiastic about the site as a whole

3. Good at promoting in person (not timid)

Brooke to Heather

1. Staying calm under pressure

2. Photography, formatting

3. Supportive, available, willing

 

Hopes and Thoughts about the Magazine:

Brooke’s Hopes:

**To have a format for writing and expression

Nicole’s Hopes:

1. A place to display my writing, photography, and art.

2. A creative culmination of the writing, art, and photography of other literary and arts people in the community.

3. An open forum for ideas.

4. An opportunity to combine concepts to produce something greater than any one person in the group.

Heather’s Hopes:

1. A way to express real life in an uncensored fashion

2. Goal: To have a huge following and open other people up to our world

 

Weaknesses/Difficulties Seen in the Other Girls:

Nicole to Brooke

1. Not always willing to entertain other's suggestions to see an intertwined product

2. Aggressive single-mindedness

Nicole to Heather

1. Sometimes too willing to be passé, non-committal

2. Sometimes photo/page support seems biased

Heather to Nicole

1. Time Management, ideas race

2. Better communication of your needs

Heather to Brooke

1. Getting frustrated too easily

2. Having a husband who cooks really good food that takes her home on a schedule  (smile)

Brooke to Heather

1. Contribute more to group, decision-making rather than deferring to me and Nico

2. Be more aware of the Content itself

Brooke to Nicole

1. Be less explosive when giving critical feedback; speak sooner than later

2. Be more consistent, less erratic

 

My Technical Strengths:

Nicole

2. Long-term contemplative writing vision

Heather

My Stressors:

Nicole

1. Disappointment with situations in life: living place, work

2. Don't feel fully utilizing potentials and creativity

3. Battles with depression, sadness, guilt, and anger

4. Aloneness

5. Procrastinating on Major Issues (legal paperwork, etc.,)

Heather

1. Being unemployed (financial issues)

2. A certain someone

3. Getting burned out dealing  with difficult family issues weekly, sometimes daily

4. Holidays – This is the worst time of year for me emotionally (Nov – Jan)

5. Having a lot of stuff to do  and not enough time to do it

6. Last minute site changes that I'm not mentally prepared for

Brooke

1. Unexplainable depression and discontent

2. Continual emotional and physical illness

3. Job stress

4. Missing my grandmother

5. Medications/therapy

6. Marital problems related to depression and therapy issues
