The Hanukkah Jones Band

John Heller

The Hanukkah Jones Band was born as I was found myself, a bass player, with song ideas and music without fellow musicians to help complete them. After too much time trying to create with either flakes or good musicians that already had too much on their plate, I resigned myself to playing them solo, with bass and vocals alone, if I had to.

The video here is from an event in April, at Columbia’s historic Missouri Theater, before a screening of “The Big Lebowski.” Before the movie was a CCR cover song contest, which seemed like a great time to sing a form of “Fortunate Son” about Missouri’s clueless pampered shitkid Governor Matt Blunt.

For a brief synopsis of the guy, first, know he’s the son of southwest Missouri’s U.S. congressman Roy Blunt. (And about all you need to know about Roy is that he was the first guy the GOP had ready to replace disgraced Christkateer bribe-ophile Tom DeLay, because he basically has the same act.) After Matt took office, he quickly acted to slash public medical benefits for the disabled, mere months after campaign assurances that he would keep the program intact. He’s also trying to turn the state into an Abstinence-Only Theocracy while seeing to it that women’s medical services (even outside of abortion) are reduced as well. I can’t wait to see the line of burqas he’ll introduce in his next campaign.

      I digress…

Currently, I have found a very talented guitarist named John Hash to make music with. He’s from Memphis, where he played in a band called Odyne, who now go by Hillard. So now we are working on songs while doing what so many bands do- look for a drummer.
